Should City of Hamilton run a Golf Course business?
Chedoke - Martin Golf Course that is owned and operted by City of Hamilton
According to the Hamilton Spectator news published on Feb. 16, 2017, the City of Hamilton owns and operates 3 Public Golf Courses.
They are King's Forest along the Red Hill valley and the two underused 18-hole Chedoke golf courses nestled under the Niagara Escarpment.
Sadly, the meaning of 'the two underused 18-hole Chedoke golf courses' must be that City is losing money to run the courses.
If it is true, the City is paying the deficit arising from the Golf course business out of City budget.
It seems to me it is unfair to the residents of Hamilton who do not play golf at the City owned courses.
In fact, the players at the public golf courses are enjoying golf at a reasonable golf fee, and their amount of savings comes from out of non-play residents' pocket.
Also, the City of Hamilton should not be in the position of competition with other privately held Golf couses in and around the City.
The City Government should work for all of the city residents and businesses and never hurt anybody or private businesses.
As a concened citizen who does not play golf, I demand the City of Hamilton and other municipalities to get out of the so-called PUBLIC Golf course business.
Please STOP unfair business practise by City-running golf course business right away!

Land development off the table for City of Hamilton golf courses
The city will keep the green in its public golf courses after a vote by councillors to abandon further study of land sales or housing redevelopment.
The city hired a consultant last spring to look at revenue-boosting opportunities and facility improvements at King's Forest along the Red Hill valley and the two underused 18-hole Chedoke golf courses nestled under the Niagara Escarpment.
At the time, facilities director Rom D'Angelo said the scope of the golf course study could include anything from new driving ranges to privately run banquet halls to land sales. The task of exploring sales and redevelopment — a controversial idea in the past — was later handed over to Hamilton's land development task force.
But councillors ruled out even studying the idea Wednesday with a vote to focus further studies on partnerships to improve golf operations or facilities.......
